Since minibuses are used so widely throughout the UK it makes sense that companies will try to work on making them as efficient and environmentally-friendly as possible. To demonstrate this, the engineering company Vocis is preparing to unveil an electric-powered minibus that’s fitted with its multi-speed, seamless-shift transmission. The minibus that will be used for the demonstration will be a Mercedes-Benz Vito.

The second generation unit has been developed with partial funding from the Niche Vehicle Network and was shortlisted for an SMMT Automotive Innovation award in 2012.

In news from Bishop, a local minibus trust is looking to extend its services so it can serve the wider community and encompass more of the towns and villages in the area. This will doubtless be a very welcome change for many in the community who do not currently have access to the service. Read the full story below

Bishop’s Stortford Minibus trust looking to extend services

BISHOP’S Stortford Minibus Trust is exploring the possibility of extending its current services to take in more of the town and surrounding villages.

Subject to viability, the trust aims to run services to areas for members of the public where commercial operators do not currently run.

Current regular routes operated by the trust include Stortbus and The Hadham Hopper/Route 4. In addition, individual groups can also hire the minibuses.

Bishop’s Stortford Minibus Trust was established in 1983 as a charity to provide affordable transport to local community organisations and groups in the Stort Valley area; as well as operating a number of regular services around Bishop’s Stortford and the surrounding area.

Phillip Demonti, chairman of the trust, said: “The trust is pleased to celebrate its 30th anniversary this year and we are keen to expand the its work within the community.”

There are so many communities in the UK that benefit from the use of a minibus. It is hoped that more minibus firms will expand their services and serve their local communities. The cost of owning and maintaining a vehicle is certainly not cheap so anything the makes minibuses more efficient and cheaper to run is great news.
